Jeanne Hebl has been a Certified Nurse Midwife since
1985. She graduated at the top of her class from the
University of San Francisco, San Francisco General
Hospital. Following graduation she worked at North
Central Bronx Hospital, in Bronx, New York, which
is a nationally reputable Midwifery service with midwives
serving both the low and high risk clients. MDs were
available as back-ups and consultants.
Jeanne’s next position was as a certified nurse midwife consultant in Ethiopia, Africa. During this 3 year position, Jeanne was part of a medical team responsible for many aspects of care for the rural, tribal peoples. She assisted in developing a traditional birth attendant (TBA) training program in which the local nurses were trained to teach the birth attendants in their respective languages and in a culturally sensitive manner. Funds were acquired to enable local nurses to teach different birth control methods to villagers, thus lowering the high pregnancy and mortality rates. Other responsibilities included bringing vaccines to villagers in an effort to reduce deaths of children due to common childhood diseases.
After Africa, Jeanne relocated to Whitefish, Montana, to help at the County Health Department in Kalispell and at North Valley Hospital in Whitefish. At this time she gave birth to her daughter, and took the next 6 months off from employment.
Jeanne then relocated to East Glacier, Montana, to work at the Indian Health Hospital in Browning. For the next 3 years, Jeanne enjoyed assisting women with their births as well as with their prenatal care, well-women exams, and menopausal issues.
In 1994, Jeanne relocated to her current place of residence Missoula, Montana. After several years in practice Jeanne chose to seek employment outside of Missoula. Jeanne then worked in Seattle with a urogynecologist for 1 year. Jeanne was then delighted to return to Missoula to work with Dr. Lynn Montgomery and participate in the development of The Birth Center. She also participates with the University of Montana, School of Nursing, in providing mentoring for registered nurse (RN) students.
Jeanne’s expertise includes caring for women throughout pregnancy, birth, and post partum. She is an advocate of natural childbirth, but also believes that women should have the option to take charge of their pregnancies and births according to their individual plans. Jeanne’s goal is to empower women by assisting with information and options. She also is skilled in well-women annual exams, birth control options, and peri and post menopausal care including alternatives to traditional medicine.
On a personal note, Jeanne is married
and has two children—Alina, a 15 year old daughter,
and, Eyob, a 12 year old Ethiopian adopted son. Her
interests include family activities such as skiing,
swimming, camping and hiking, as well as individual
interests such as maintaining physical and emotional
health through exercise and diet, mountain biking,
cross country skiing, reading, and knitting.
